Mandatory Blog Post #1

Read the article about 9/11 below from Newsweek:
"One Day, Now Broken in Two"

In a thoughtful, well written response, consider your beliefs and opinions the following questions.  Your rubric is as follows:
Blog Posting Rubric
You do not have to answer all of these, but think about them for your response. Support your feelings using Quindlen's essay, "One Day, Now Broken in Two":

What are your initial reactions to Quindlen's essay?
According to the other, people of different perspectives viewed the events of 9/11 in different ways. What were those ways, and to which do you relate most?
Quindlen mentions that Americans asked themselves two questions. Do you agree with those questions, and what do you think are the answers to them?
Do you think it is possible to divide life into "the mundane and the monstrous," as Quindlen suggests?  What does she mean by this? Are there other instances where this dichotomy (contrast) exists?
Could there be another 9/11? Why or why not?

  1. September 11 isn’t really two different days now. There are those that spend the day mourning for those that were lost in the entire mess, and those who disregard what happened, trying to leave it in the past, but everyone is thinking about it. It can be hard for some people to relate because they weren’t there they didn’t lose anything or anyone and it didn’t really affect them. Everyone was in shock afterward for a little while and had more pride for who they were, but not everyone was in the middle of it, it doesn’t mean that much to them. Life does go on after something like that, I know it sounds really apathetic but life can’t stop, schools are still open and businesses are still running. Of course we should remember those that were lost but, it isn’t fair to those who do have birthdays or anniversaries on September eleven. I know four people who had birthdays yesterday and I spent all day at partying with them or getting ready for a party. It isn’t a day for them anymore, and when people find out they were born then it’s almost like “…oh”. Now 9-11 and September 11 are totally different, when people refer to the death and destruction they say 9-11, and anything else is September 11, BUT their minds are still on what happened nine years ago. As long as there are people in the world that don’t like America, another 9/11 could happen, I don’t know when, where, or how but it could definitely happen.
